Masterclasses for wine lovers

Would you like to know more about your favourite wines, or do you want to be the person who can guess the varietal at dinner parties? Either way, a wine-focused masterclass in the Granite Belt will give you insights into winemaking. Do book ahead for these premium experiences.

Mike Hayes, Australian Winemaker of the Year in 2017, hosts an hour-long Philosophy of Wine Tour every Saturday afternoon from 1.30 pm (bookings essential) in the vineyard at Balancing Heart Wines. You’ll learn about winemaking in the region and how to evaluate wines like a wine judge.

For a complete introduction to the process of winemaking, join a Winemaker for a Weekend workshop at Banca Ridge Cellar Door and Winery.

Heritage Estate Wines offers a Vine + Dine Journey Lunch from Thursday to Monday. It includes a walk and talks through the vineyards, followed by a sommelier wine discussion. Then there’s a five-dish and matched wine experience in their restaurant.

The Ridgemill Estate Wine Makers Tasting experience is a behind-the-scenes tasting experience for two people with winemaker Peter McGlashan with a cheese platter to enjoy.

At Bent Road Wine, there’s a one-and-a-half-hour masterclass with a tour where you’ll see their qvevris and a wine-tasting experience. Tobin Wines also offer a two-hour tour and tasting at the winery.

At Our Table is a long-table lunch and tour held every Monday at Ballandean Estate. You’ll meet members of the Puglisi family who founded the vineyard in 1932, and share a delicious lunch with them in the Barrelroom.

Queensland Country Tourism acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the lands and waterways that run through these regions. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past, present and emerging.
