King of the castle Ploughman’s Platter from Stanthorpe Cheese, Thulimbah

Pick up a Ploughman’s Platter from Stanthorpe Cheese and be like a bushranger with a picnic hideout amongst the massive boulders at Donnelleys Castle. Stanthorpe Cheese owners Julie and Wayne Hope have created a local legend with their generous Ploughman’s Platters (Pre-order 24 hours ahead). The platter includes two of your favourite cheeses, crusty hot bread, pickled onions, beetroot relish, sweet mustard pickles, cherry tomatoes, sliced cold meat, a boiled egg and seasonal fruit. Their cheeses are made to traditional recipes on the farm using no artificial flavours or preservatives. If you want to take it easy, you can eat in or outside (dog friendly) the factory. Stanthorpe Cheese also sells locally made vinegar, honey, olives, spices, jams, and Schultes meat. Donnelleys Castle was a popular hideout for Captain Thunderbolt, a ‘gentleman’ bushranger who roamed the region in the 1860s.

Guru Tip
Stanthorpe Cheese’s freshly made in-store cheesecakes and cakes, and their creamy Jersey milkshakes are the best you’ll try.
